Giving away the leftovers by andreshanti Giving away the leftovers by andreshanti
Third and final comic strip about the Americas colonization period and second time I feature Humon's characters.

This time European countries rush to get what's left from the Americas.
Russia got Alaska. Sweden got New Sweden, Saint Barthélemy and Guadeloupe.
Denmark got the Danish West Indies and Greenland.
Netherlands a part of Brazil, the Dutch Guiana (now Guyana and Suriname), New Netherland, Tobago and the Virgin Islands.
Even the Duchy of Courland got New Courland - Courland was the smallest nation to settle in America.

Italy wasn't unified at that time and couldn't settle any American land.

The Americas were discovered in 1942 and in 1948 Portugal set foot on Goa, starting exploitation on a new land.

Ei, lembrei de uma coisa - a Itália tentou surrupiar alguns pedaços da Africa - Etiópia e Somália, lembra?

I adore this series of strips. It's of the same calibre as the original inspiration (Humon). It's so informative and enlightening--didn't know Courland (which is now mostly in Latvia) had colonies (Tobago, to be precise and a port in Gambia). You transposed the dates, though--you might have meant 1492 and 1498 respectively.

Italy eventually ended up with some pieces of Africa, like Libya, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

New Sweden is now part of the U S A, and St. Barthelemy and Guadeloupe are part of France. The Danish West Indies is now known as the US Virgin Islands (it would be interesting how Humon would make a comic strip out of that--they practically sold it off to the US for a bargain in 1917).

Oh, thanx a lot!
It was so difficult to organize the ideas not to make any timeline mistake.

Of course India was reached by Portugal before the colonial division among the other countries.

And it seems Scandinavian countries are always selling everything for a bargain, like Denmark and the oil case. LOL!

I think I am also inspired my Humon's works now, but mostly yours, because you started a whole series based off of hers. I am thinking of plots for Canada and America with there 'children' (states/provinces) and yours inspired me to do so.
Do you think I should ask her permission to do so? If I did, crossovers would be plentiful being about Canada and the states and such.

I didn't ask for permission. I would but I prefered doing a fanart [South American Way [link]] so she could see it as a homage and a way to pay her back for such funny artwork.

And I would be very pleased to inspire you on your series!

Well, I might as well post a group picture like you, and see if it's okay for me to continue it. If it's not, I will stop. Thanks for the advice! :D

(For some reason, when I first saw that picture, my mind titled it 'greetings from the south' but I haven't the slightest idea why that was.)

Oh, I think she will love it!
Artists just love becoming a source of inspiration for the others!

South American Way is a song by Carmen Miranda [link]!

That song sounds like it would be nice, if the recording quality wasn't so bad. :( Her dress is gorgeous though. :)
